ZigZagCity 2014

29 May – 9 June 2014

Architecture festival ZigZagCity is a route that runs right through the heart of Rotterdam: the Laurenskwartier. Visitors are invited to enjoy the locations off the beaten track. ZigZagCity places the diversity and the variety of the urban environment in the spotlight. The city itself is the stage on which the activities take place. Experiencing architecture and the city is key.

The programme along the route shows the original urban planning ideas, contemporary uses and future opportunities. ZigZagCity takes visitors to city icons, the post-war reconstructions, the seventies housing projects and two extraordinary living bridges. Architects, dancers, designers, landscape architects, photographers and programme makers reveal the city’s (hidden) stories and new opportunities.

360 Degrees

The Luchtsingel is the place to explore Pompenburg Park, a new urban park that will be constructed during the festival. Young architects show the potential of leisure on and near the water at Haagseveer. The route continues along the pavement of the Meent and Grand Café Dudok, to the Grotekerkplein with 360 degrees programming. With dance, film and music the festival explores the public spaces of the square and its surrounding buildings, including rooftops and the power station. At the Vlasmarkt, architecture firm Broekbakema presents a modern display case, bringing back the fifties. ZigZagCity invites you to look at the city from different perspectives.
